The Story Behind curt

This started after I saw a speed-reading tutorial go viral and pull in more than 30M views. It was a great intro, but I felt like one video can only take you so far.

Post I am referring to: https://x.com/UltraLinx/status/2011434505253650868?s=20

So I built curt (Can U Read This?) as a place to actually train the skill, not just watch it.

At its core, curt uses Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP). Instead of scanning lines left to right, you keep your eyes anchored while words appear one by one at a controlled pace.

The Experience

I wanted the experience to feel like practice, not content consumption. The app has two main paths:

  • Daily Challenge: A fresh challenge each day (Wordle-style), plus a free archive so you can revisit past sets.
  • Practice Mode: Paste your own text or use built-in examples to train on exactly what you want.

Daily challenges are generated with AI-written passages designed to test reading speed and consistency. Practice mode is more open-ended, so you can tailor sessions to your own goals.

The goal is simple: help you read faster through repetition, feedback, and focused sessions.
